Covington County Relay for Life is adding another new feature to its annual event, a talent show, with the hope to involve the community more.

“This is the first time that we will have this show,” Organizer Randi Bozeman said. “We wanted to change things up a little this year and add some new and fun things so it will increase community involvement.”

Bozeman said that the talent show is a perfect way to showcase talent around the community.

“Not only is this a great way to raise a little money,” Bozeman said. “We will be able to have fun showing off the talented people of Covington County.”

Since the allotted time for the talent show during the event is only an hour, there will only be 15 slots available for registration.

“Unfortunately, since we do have an allotted time during the event, we have to keep the applicants at 15,” Bozeman said. “That gives enough time for a two-minute performance and then if there are dancers or bands that have to set up, it will give them enough time to do so. We also have to allow the judges to deliberate and hand out awards as well.”

Bozeman said that they are interested to see the response from the people in the community.

“We have a lot of talent in this community,” Bozeman said. “I feel like we will have a good response, not just from singers and dancers, but from several other acts.”

Applicants can perform as a single act or a group act. No weapons or profanity are allowed to be used during an act or a show.

The deadline for the registering for the talent show is April 5, at noon. The show will be limited to the first 15 that register.

Bozeman said that things are moving full speed ahead towards the Relay for Life event.

“We have great participation from our teams,” Bozeman said. “We have 14 right now, and they are great. The communities have done really well helping us get really organized, but we still have a lot to do to get ready.”

The next organizational meeting for Relay for Life is on March 19, at 6 p.m., at the USDA building in front of the Kiwanis Center.
