BENITA BETH CROWELL CONLEY

Benita Beth Crowell Conley, age 56, passed away Feb. 27.

She is survived by her husband, Chris; stepdaughters, Marissa and Breanna; son Brian Reeves; brothers, Bryant (Rochelle) Crowell, Ben (Joyce) Crowell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents. Joe and Jessie McVay Crowell; brothers. Bob, Bill and Braxton Crowell.

She requested her remains be donated to science in the hopes that it could help find cures for others that suffer from cancer.

REBECCA ENZOR CROSS

Mrs. Rebecca Enzor Cross, of Andalusia, passed away Mon., March 4, 2019, at Andalusia Manor.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Home Cemetery with Brother Ashley McKathan officiating and Foreman Funeral Home directing. Visitation was Tuesday at Foreman Funeral Home.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and David Williams, Mary and Chuck Dutton, all  of Andalusia, and Leigh and Dale Locklier of Troy; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Faye Enzor of Andalusia; one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and John Everett of Andalusia; a sister-in-law, Mary Cross Brown of Mobile; her brother-in-law, Audre Cross of Andalusia; and sister-in-law, Peggy Cross of Jacksonville, Ala.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Duane Edwin Cross; her daughter, Paula Cross Anderson; and two grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Williams and Emily Ann Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ashley Elizabeth Williams Annual Scholarship through the Auburn University Foundation, 317 S. College Street, Auburn, AL 36849.

DONNA HANSCOM GRANT

Ms. Donna Hanscom Grant, 61, of Wing, passed away Sat., March 2, 2019, at Florala Health and Rehab.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Melodie and David Maddox of Wing; her grandsons, David Blaine Short and Nickolas Wren Short; and brother and sister-in-law, Donald E. and Jocelyn Hanscom, Jr. of Australia.

JO ANN JOHNSTON COTTON

Jo Ann Johnston Cotton, age 88, of Andalusia, passed away Sat., March 2, at her residence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph (Joe) Egleston Johnston and Mary Allie Quick Johnston of Florala; a brother, Kendall (Sallie) Johnston of Jacksonville; two sisters, Lillian (Buddy) Strickland of Florala and Mary Alden (Donnell) Steele of DeFuniak Springs.

Funeral services were held Mon., March 4, at 11 a.m., at Foreman Funeral Home in Andalusia with the Rev. Jack Williamson officiating. Burial followed in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Foreman Funeral Home directing. Music was provided by Johnny Beasley. Visitation was from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday from Foreman Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Ezra Donald Cotton; a daughter, Jatricia (Keith, her “favorite son-in-law”) Pugh of Evergreen; three sons, Alan (Angie) Cotton, Don Ferrell (Cheryl) Cotton, and Lamar Cotton, all of Andalusia; 10 grandchildren, Rodney (Amy) Pugh of Cumming, Ga.; Cynthia (Ryan) Meals of Opelika; Shannon (Beverly) Pugh, Lee Cotton, Chris Cotton, Chase (LeAnne) Cotton, all of Andalusia; Raine (Lauren) Cotton of Roswell, Ga.; Wade Cotton of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; Shelli (Matt) Smith of Andalusia, and Helena Cotton of Andalusia; 17 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and three faithful caregivers, Samantha Gilmore, Mary Johnson, and Ruby Parker.

Pallbearers included her seven grandsons, Rodney Pugh, Shannon Pugh, Lee Cotton, Chris Cotton, Chase Cotton, Raine Cotton, and Wade Cotton.

Jo Ann was a homemaker, a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. She loved the Lord and served Him as a Sunday school teacher, a Vacation Bible School teacher, and a member of the benevolence committee in addition to serving in other ministries of the church. She was involved in various civic organizations through the years, but will more recently be remembered by the articles she wrote for the Florala News called “Remembering.” Jo Ann loved the outdoors and spent hours on pretty weather days on her golf cart, riding around the home property on Maddox Road, enjoying the birds, squirrels, trees, flowers…. all of nature. She kept the property mowed and clean of debris, using a zero turn mower or a Ford tractor and mower and a D.O.T. grabber.
