Heaven gained a beautiful lady on Tues., Feb. 12, 2019.

Sandra J. Cason, formerly of Andalusia, passed away after a short illness.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathi (Butch) Kelley of Andalusia; a son, Steven (Laura) Bresson of Salem, Ala.; a brother, Richard (Cheryl) Babkowski of Stephenville, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

She had nine grandchildren, Brooke (Tom) Cabello of Orlando, Hannah (Brandon) Averill of Gantt, Erica Kelley of Andalusia, Abigail (Garrett) Powell of Andalusia, Jordan Bresson of Denver, Colo., Trevor Bresson, Colorado Springs, Colo., Tyler (Liz) Bresson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Chelsea Russell and Kyndall Hogg, both of Warner Robins, Ga.

She had nine great-grandchildren, Barrett and Rowan Averill, Drew Kelley, Eva Lynn Powell, Sofia and Maita Cabello, Liam Bresson and Landen and Griffen Russell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cason; her parents, Stanley and Gertrude Babkowski; and a brother, Roger Babkowski.

A memorial service will be held May 4, 2019, at 11 a.m., at Zion Rock Cemetery on Boggon Level Road, in Andalusia.

DR. BARBARA ANN LINDER

Dr. Barbara Ann Linder, formerly a resident of Andalusia, age 86, passed away Sun., Feb. 24, 2019, at her residence in Prattville, Alabama.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 28, at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Minister Herb Carlisle officiating.  Visitation will be held at the cemetery prior to interment. Foreman Funeral Home of Andalusia is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Barbara and her family moved from Geneva, Ala., to Andalusia, in the fall of 1960 when her husband, Robert Linder, was employed as a Covington County Farm Agent with the Auburn University Cooperative Extension Service (now Alabama Cooperative Extension System).  Barbara, a dedicated teacher, taught business education subjects at Andalusia High School from 1962 to 1969 before joining the Lurleen B. Wallace State Junior College Faculty.  She was employed from 1970 to 1998 as a business instructor at LBWSJC/LBWCC.

Barbara joined the full-time faculty of LBWSJC during the college’s second year of operation.  It was an exciting, inaugural period for the development of the college’s academic programs and student activities. While she was a member of LBW’s business faculty, she initiated and sponsored the college’s business tournament and she initiated and sponsored Phi Beta Lambda, the college’s student business organization. She was nominated for the State of Alabama Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Faculty Member.  Additionally, Dr. Linder was selected as one of the college’s grant writers and as the coordinator of LBW’s Title III Federal Grant – Strengthening Institution’s Programs.

In her role as coordinator (1993-1998) of Title III, Barbara and the Title III Team strengthened LBW College in three areas by implementing an institutional research program, by infusing technology throughout the college’s curriculum, and by implementing a placement and developmental studies program to retain and graduate underprepared LBW college students.

Barbara, an advocate of lifelong-learning, attended the University of New Mexico as she was a westerner from Albuquerque, New Mexico.  She graduated from Oklahoma College or Women, (OCW) (now the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma) at Chickasha, Oklahoma.  Barbara also graduated from the University of Alabama (UA) at Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  She earned and was the recipient of a B.S. Degree –OCW; M.A. Degree- UA; ED.S. Degree of UA; ED.D. Degree–UA.  All university degrees were with majors in business and education.  After retiring from LBW, Barbara returned to her business-training background and worked seasonally as an enrolled agent in tax accounting.

A Christian since her early teens, Barbara was an active member of the Chapman-Hart Sunday School Class, Andalusia First Baptist Church.  Her other involvements included  membership in the Pilot Club of Andalusia, charter membership in the Luncheon Pilot Club of America, membership in Covington County’s Theta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Education Society, volunteer membership on the Governor’s Committee for the Employment of People with Disabilities (Andalusia), plus additional memberships in state and national professional, civic, academic organizations.

On a personal note, Barbara referred to herself as a “Korean War Bride.” She married in 1953, Lt. Robert Linder (U.S. Army).  Through their marriage, Barbara became an “Alabamian.”  Upon Robert and Barbara’s move to Geneva, Alabama (in 1954), she lovingly adopted the culture of “South Alabama.”  It was while Robert and Barbara were residing in Geneva, Alabama, that they became the parents of two lovely daughters, Elaine Annette Linder and Victoria Jean Linder.

After moving to Andalusia and to “the farm” on U.S. Highway 29, Andalusia, Alabama, Barbara enjoyed gardening.  The flower garden at “the farm” was her “pride.”  She loved the azaleas and camellias.  Her favorite camellia was the Pink Perfection.

Dr. Linder was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 62 years, Robert Linder.  She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Linder of Prattville, Victoria Coleman and her husband Michael of Okatie, S.C.; two grandsons, Wesley Coleman of Madison, Ala., and Andrew Coleman and his wife, Elizabeth of Covington, Ky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
