The Andalusia Bulldogs put up a strong fight, but fell 55-53 on last second shot to the Flomaton Hurricanes on Friday night in the 52nd Annual Andalusia High School Christmas Invitational.
Flomaton got on the board first, but then Andalusia’s Luis Reyes tied the game with a tip in.
Roosevelt Weaver followed with a pair of free throws to give Andalusia the lead.
Flomaton went back on top with a 3-pointer, but Andalusia came charging back with back-to-back buckets from Elijah McClain to go up 10-7.
Keaun Samuels then picked up a 3-pointer to help give Andalusia a 15-10 lead after the first period of play.
Flomaton got the first points of the second period, but then McClain scored three-straight baskets to put Andalusia up 21-13.
At halftime, Andalusia was on top 31-26.
Flomaton came out hot in the third period and quickly built a 34-31 lead.
Andalusia continued to battle, but Flomaton was on top 47-39 heading into the final frame.
Andalusia began to mount a comeback late in the game with strong buckets from McClain and free throws from Franklin Osorio.
McClain tied the game with 50 seconds remaining, but Flomaton was able to pull off a last second shot to knock off the Bulldogs 55-53.
“I don’t anything negative I can say about these guys,” Andalusia head coach Brad Goldman said. “They fought, battled and all those generic things you can say. It’s the truth. We battled…We had a chance to fold when we were down double digits there in the fourth and we fought our butt off and got back in this thing. I think people around here don’t know much about Flomaton, but that’s a really good basketball team. They beat Escambia County last night and Spanish Fort. I would be surprised if they don’t make a run.”
Andalusia will play Georgiana tonight at 6 p.m., for the third place game. Flomaton will play Greenville at 7:30 p.m., for the championship.
