Veterans associated with Alabama Veteran teamed up on Wednesday to help a veteran’s spouse in need when they built a wheelchair ramp at the Enterprise home of Crystal and Andre James.

Red Oak resident John Major Parker, who helped with the project, said Mrs. James has a congenital condition that will get worse. Her husband served in Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism, retiring from the Army after 23 years.

Alabama Veteran is a group of combat veterans who’ve teamed up to help fellow veterans.

“We’ve all been there done that, some got the medals and others have the scars to show it,” the group’s website states.

Parker joined Jack Cox of Enterprise to put a plan together to help the James family, enlisting the help of Cox’s fellow church member, master carpenter Don Rummell of Dothan.

“Don and Jack are good friends and today working with them was a true blessing of Christian fellowship and doing a good deed,” Parker said. “Don was donating his skills today and I sure was very proud to have him on hand he can cut faster than you can fasten it down.”

Parker is a veteran of Iraqi Freedom and the Kosovo Campaign.
