CHARGING OUT OF THE GATE: Lady Eagles start year off with big victories

The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles picked up their second win of the season with a victory over Geneva County and the boys came up just short against Wicksburg on Wednesday in Geneva.

GIRLS

PLEASANT HOME 43, GENEVA COUNTY 23

Pleasant Home continued their strong start to the season with a 43-23 win over Geneva County.

River Baldwin and Hope Gunter got the Lady Eagles off to a 7-2 lead in the first period.

Baldwin had four points including a 2-for-2 effort at the free-throw line.

Gunter had three points after going 3-for-4 from the free-throw line.

Baldwin took over in the second period as she had eight points to help the Lady Eagles go up 21-9 at halftime.

Daisy Cordle added four points in the second period for the Lady Eagles.

In the third period, it was more Baldwin as she helped stretch the lead to 33-14 with a 10 point performance in the third period.

Baldwin capped off the day with six points in the fourth period to give the Lady Eagles a 43-23 victory.

Baldwin finished the game with 28 points.

BOYS

WICKSBURG 59, PLEASANT HOME 49

In the final game of the day, the Eagles fell 59-49 to Wicksburg.

Marvin Fantroy started the game off strong with six points in the opening frame.

Austin Kelley added five points, but the Eagles trailed 15-14 after one period of play.

In the second period, Jacob Price came on strong with five points.

Kevin Cook and Fantroy each tacked on three points, but Wicksburg took a 30-26 lead into halftime.

James Austin Hawkins picked up the pace for the Eagles in the third period as he added seven points including going 5-for-7 from the free-throw line.

Kelley tacked on five points and Fantroy had two as the Eagles were down 44-40 heading into the fourth period.

Kelley remained steady with another six points, but Wicksburg surged at the end for a 59-49 victory.

Kelley led the Eagles with 17 points.
