ROAD TO THE STATE TITLE: Lady Eagles win South Super Regional tourney

The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles (29-5) came up big on Saturday as they picked up the 2018 Class 1A South Super Regional championship in Montgomery.

PLEASANT HOME 25, HERITAGE 6
Pleasant Home opened up the quarterfinals with a big 25-6 win over Heritage Christian.

PLEASANT HOME 25, HERITAGE 14
Heritage Christian put up more of a fight in the second game, but the Lady Eagles moved one game closer to the sweep with a 25-14 win.

The Lady Eagles came surging out in the third game and picked up a 25-5 win to complete the sweep.

Pleasant Home continued to show why they were a favorite coming into the tournament as they topped Brantley 25-14 in the first semifinal game.

In the second semifinal game, the Lady Eagles came out strong and pulled away for a 25-13 win.

Pleasant Home punched their ticket to the regional championship with a 25-8 victory to complete the sweep over Brantley.

The Lady Eagles got hit with their first real test of the tournament, but still managed a 25-23 victory over Westminster-Oak Mountain in game one of the regional finals.

Pleasant Home inched within a game of the championship after picking up a 25-14 win in game two.

Westminster-Oak Mountian kept the series going after picking up a 25-23 victory in game three to force game four.

PLEASANT HOME 25, WESTMINSTER 20
The Lady Eagles capped off the regional tournament with a 25-20 victory to clinch the regional championship.
Amy Kate Bulger picked up an ace for the final point of the game.
With the win, the Lady Eagles will be the No. 1 seed for the south in Wednesday’s state championship tournament in Birmingham.
The Lady Eagles will play Meek at 11 a.m., Wednesday in Crossplex Birmingham.
“I felt like we played as good Saturday as we did Friday,” Pleasant Home head coach Tony Wilson said. “We were able to come out quick and build a cushion. That really helps us because the girls feed off of that. I’m very proud of these girls and the support that we got in Montgomery.”
Wilson said that he liked the Lady Eagles have a chance to do something special.
“If we get going, we are going to be tough for someone to beat,” Wilson said. “I like the way our bracket is set up.”
