The Andalusia Police Department charged one man in a domestic violence case, and a second for burglary in unrelated cases on Tuesday.

Andalusia Police Investigator Gene Jackson said Sherman L. McCoverey , 61, was charged with domestic violence by strangulation or suffocation and theft of property 4th degree in an incident reported Oct. 19. The suspect also was served with a protection from abuse order.

McCoverey is currently being held in the Covington County Jail on a $23,000 bond.

Jackson expressed his appreciation to the Youth Advocate Program (YAP) for their assistance.

In an unrelated case, Lt. Jody Scott said 28-year-old Kyle Chase Kelley of Andalusia burglarized a house on Dunson Street and took an electronic tablet. Scott said officers responded to a call to the residence Tuesday morning. The suspect, Kelley, was on-scene when officers arrived. After questioning, it was determined he was responsible for the theft and was taken into custody.

Scott said Kelley opened an unlocked window and reached inside to get the tablet. The incident happened two days prior, but the victim did not notice the tablet missing until Tuesday morning.

Kelley was charged with one count of burglary 3rd degree and one count of theft of property 4th degree.

He was booked into the Covington County Jail and is being held on a total of $13,000 bond.
