The 59th annual North/South All-Star football came down to the wire with the North All-Stars coming away with a 27-14 victory on Thursday night at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl.

Both defenses came out strong and kept the game scoreless through one period of play.

In the second period, the North got an interception with 10 minutes left before halftime.

Sylacauga’s Keaton Wilson scrambled to the goal line with a 15-yard scamper before punching it in one play later.

The extra point was no good, but the North All-Stars were on top 6-0 with 8:35 left to play in the first half.

The South All-Stars responded with a strong touchdown drive capped off by a 10-yard run from South MVP Davede Herron of Benjamin Russell.

The extra point split the uprights to put the South on top 7-6 with just over three minutes left in the half.

In the third quarter, the North All-Stars got another interception and again turned the turnover into points.

Wilson scored again from 1-yard out and then scored on the two-point conversion to put the North up 14-7 with 2:35 left in the third period.

Things continued to go wrong for the South quarterbacks as the North got another interception on the next South drive.

Once again, the North turned the miscue into another touchdown.

This time Clay Chalkville’s Quenton Young scored on an 11-yard run.

The extra point gave the North a 21-7 lead with two seconds left in the third quarter.

On the South’s next drive, Goshen’s Brock Snyder connected on several passes to push the South down the field.

Herron later scored on a 1-yard run to make the score 21-14 with 6:26 left in the game.

The South got the ball back with just a few seconds left in the game and needed something big to happen.

As the clock hit zero, the South All-Stars made a last ditch effort by continuing to lateral the behind them to a teammate who would try to get as many yards as possible before tossing the ball to another teammate behind them.

Andalusia’s Lane Prevett got the ball in the North end zone and burst his way 20 yards down the sideline before tossing it behind him to a teammate.

After a few more laterals, the North ended up with the ball in the end zone for a touchdown to cap off the 27-14 win.

“It was fun and it was an honor,” Prevett said. “Glad I got to participate with a lot of good athletes and have a good time here.”

Prevett, an offensive lineman, said he was expecting to run the ball coming into the game.

“I saw it coming and I honestly didn’t think I was going to make it out of the end zone with it,” Prevett said. “Then I was running and realized I had gotten caught and just threw and back and hoped for the best.”

Andalusia’s Will Black played center for the South and was excited to have the chance to play in the All-Star game.

“We came here to play one last game and to have fun doing it,” Black said. “That last play was all the fun we needed to cap off the week.

“It was great to play with all these other guys. They are phenomenal athletes and great people. It was an awesome week.”
