Florala’s football team hasn’t made the playoffs in more than a decade, but their high-scoring offense could be the push that the Wildcats need to get into the postseason.

The Wildcats finished last year with a 3-6 record, but made significant strides  after going 0-8 in 2016.

Before 2017 the Wildcats hadn’t won a region game in two years.

Florala will open up the season on Aug. 24 when they host St. Michael’s Catholic.

St. Michael’s is a fairly new program and they currently don’t play a full varsity schedule.

They are projected to be a Class 3A or 4A school when they join the ASHAA next season.

Last year, Florala went down to Mobile to take on St. Michael’s and the Wildcats came away with a 41-27 victory.

The Wildcats stay at home on Aug. 31 when they play host to Class 2A Cottage Hill Christian.

This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.

Cottage Hill Christian went 3-7 during the 2017 season.

Things get tough on Sept. 7 when the Wildcats must travel to Georgiana to take on the defending Class 1A, Region 2 champions.

Georgiana has won the last four games between the two squads, including a 52-20 victory last season.

On Sept. 14, the Wildcats return home to face perennial Class 1A powerhouse Brantley in a the second region game of the season.

Brantley holds a 21-3-1 record against Florala.

Brantley has won the past 20 games between the two squads.

Florala’s last win in the series came with a 23-7 win in 1989.

Next up, the Wildcats hit the road to take on Elba on Sept. 21 for the third region game of the season.

The series is tied 14-14-2, but the two squads haven’t squared off on the gridiron since 1975.

Florala returns home for a non-region game on Sept. 28 against Houston County.

Houston County holds a 4-2 series lead against Florala.

The Wildcats get back to region play on Oct. 5 when they play host to the Red Level Tigers.

Florala holds a 35-28 record against Red Level.

Last season, the Wildcats pulled out a 67-28 thumping of the Tigers.

Florala remains in region play on Oct. 12 when they take a trip down Hwy. 55 to McKenzie.

The series between the two teams is tied 11-11-1.

McKenzie was on a four-game win streak in the series before the Wildcats knocked them off with a 42-35 win in 2017.

The Wildcats will be back home on Oct. 19 when they host region foe Pleasant Home.

Pleasant Home leads the series 12-6, and played a big part in keeping the Wildcats out of the playoffs last season with a 35-33 victory.

Pleasant Home has won the past three contests in the series.

Florala will wrap up the regular season on Oct. 26 with a road trip to Kinston.

The series between Kinston and Florala is tied 15-15, but Kinston has won the past nine meetings.

Last season, Kinston beat the Wildcats 58-50.
