The Andalusia Bulldogs look to earn another region title as they prepare for the 2018 high school football season.
Andalusia went to the fourth round of the Class 4A state playoffs for the second year in a row before falling to UMS-Wright.
On Aug. 24, the Bulldogs open up the season with a road to trip to take on Class 6A Saraland.
Saraland and Andalusia have never met in football action.
The Bulldogs will have their home opener on Aug. 31 when they clash with the Trinity Wildcats.
Andalusia holds a 5-1 record against Trinity and has won the past five meetings between the two squads. Andalusia won last year’s game 31-14 in Montgomery.
This is expected to be the first game that will be played at the newly renovated stadium in Andalusia.
On Sept. 7, Andalusia begins Class 4A, Region 1 play when they play host to UMS-Wright.
UMS-Wright holds a 14-1 record against Andalusia.
The battle of the Bulldogs will pit two of last year’s Class 4A semifinalist against each other in the first week of region play.
Andalusia won last year’s regular season game with a 27-21 overtime victory.
The two teams later met in Class 4A semifinals, and it was UMS-Wright who came away with a 35-28 win.
UMS-Wright would then go on to win the Class 4A state championship.
Andalusia remains at home and in region play on Sept. 14 when Monroe County comes to town.
The Bulldogs have won the past four games against Monroe County and have won nine of the last 10 contests.
Andalusia won last year’s game 54-0 and won 50-6 in 2016.
The Bulldogs own an 11-10-1 record against Monroe County.
On Sept. 21, Andalusia hits the road to take on Hillcrest-Evergreen. This is the first time since 2013 that the two teams have played each other in football.
Andalusia leads the series against Hillcrest with a 14-10 record.
Hillcrest is 1-of-4 teams in Region 1 (Andalusia, UMS-Wright, Clarke County and Hillcrest) that made it to at least the fourth round of the playoffs in 2017.
Hillcrest won the Class 3A state championship last year before moving up to Class 4A.
The Bulldogs return home on Sept. 28 with a non-region game against cross-county rival Opp.
Andalusia is 49-36-4 against the Bobcats in the storied county series. The Bulldogs have won eight straight against Opp including a 47-7 victory last year.
On Oct. 4, Andalusia goes on the road for a region contest with Williamson. Williamson moved down from Class 5A to Class 4A this season and this will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
The Bulldogs return home for one final regular season game on Oct. 12 against region foe Escambia County. Andalusia is 22-15 all-time against Escambia County.
Andalusia won last year’s game 41-0 and won 54-0 in 2016.
Andalusia will be on the road on Oct. 19 when they take a short trip over to East Brewton to take on W.S. Neal in a Region 1 battle. Andalusia won last year’s game 52-28 and holds an 11-6 record over W.S. Neal.
The final regular season game of the year will take the Bulldogs on a trip to Grove Hill to take on Clarke County. Andalusia holds a 4-3-2 record against Clarke County, but the two schools haven’t played since 2013. Clarke County advanced to the Class 3A semifinals last year before falling to Hillcrest-Evergreen.
