The Red Level Lady Tigers (11-10) are looking to turn heads this week at the Class 1A South Regional softball tournament in Gulf Shores.

“I really felt like we had a good season,” Red Level head coach Allen Catrett said. “We had several girls that made a lot of improvements during the season.”

The Lady Tigers improved in several different areas this season, but Catrett said that defense has seen the biggest strides.

“There were a lot of girls that improved in several areas this year,” Catrett said. “Defense has probably been our biggest area of improvement. We’ve had some girls really step up this season. They have been playing with more confidence. We aren’t giving up as many runs this year and that helps take some of the load off of the offense.”

Along with defense, Catrett said that the Lady Tigers’ bats have been heating up this year.

“This year we have had some girls that are hitting the ball well,” Catrett said. “The girls that returned have either stayed consistent or improved. We also have three seventh graders that have stepped up in their first year of varsity softball.”

One of those seventh graders has been Elizabeth Cross.

Cross leads the Lady Tigers with a .407 batting average and a 3.01 earned run average.

Catrett said that Alexis Perdue as been one of the most improved players on the team. After hitting for a .164 average last year, Perdue’s average has soared to .340 this year.

The Lady Tigers will play Sweet Water at 9 a.m., on Thursday in the opening round of the South Regional tournament in Gulf Shores.
