A local competitive cheer team will go on to Disney World for a nationwide competition next weekend.
The Andalusia Dance, Tumbling and Cheer team’s Starz/Youth Radiance, will head to the D2 Summit Championship to compete against 50-75 teams, owner Katie Poole said.
“We go to competitions throughout the year and at these competitions you can receive bids to go to other competitions,” Poole said.
“When we went to Jam Fast in Mobile, we had someone bid for us to go to the D2 Summit.”
The team is made of 14 girls, ages 8 to 11.
The D2 Summit is a nationwide competition for cheer, dance and tumbling.
The competition will be from May 11 to May 13, depending on if the team advances.
“Our routine is a two minute, 30 second routine that is really jam-packed,” Poole said.
“We practice two hours, twice a week. We’re ready and excited for this competition.”
In order to raise up money for the competition, local businesses donated items to ADTC, where they did a Facebook auction.
“The registration is $299 per girl and that doesn’t include the way to Disney World or the hotel,” Poole said.
As for the competition itself, the girls are very optimistic and have been working hard.
“We’re all really excited for this opportunity,” Poole said.
