Opp falls to Mobile Christian

The Opp Bobcats saw their season come to an end when they fell 12-2 to Mobile Christian in the second round of Class 3A playoffs Saturday in Opp.
Ethan Baker took the mound to start the game and walked Sam Ladner to start the contest.
Baker then got back-to-back fly ball outs to Dalton Grider in center field.
After walking another batter with two outs, Baker got the next batter to strike out to end the frame.
Opp went down in order in the bottom of the first inning and Mobile Christian used just seven pitches to get through the frame.
Baker came back strong in the top of the second inning and retired the Mobile Christian batters in order.
With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, the Bobcats got their first base runner of the game when Grider reached second off of an error.
Mobile Christian got a single to start the top of the third inning before Baker retired the next two batters with a ground out and a strikeout.
The Leopards then took the lead when Trent Avery launched a two-run home run over the fence in left field.
Opp got a single from Brady James to start the bottom of the third inning and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Baker.
Mobile Christian got a one-out single in the top of the fourth inning and then the runner came around to score on an error.
In the top of the fifth inning, a dropped third strike allowed the first runner to reach and then Avery blasted his second home run of the day to put the Leopards on top 5-0.
Grider led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and moved to second on a single from James.
Grider then scored on a double from Spurlin Kelley.
Lane Worley then drove in James.
Mobile Christian went on to add six more runs for a 12-2 victory.
