The LBWCC Saints put up a fight, but strong pitching lifted the Wallace-Dothan Govs to a 2-0 win on Friday in Andalusia.

In the top of the first inning, the Govs drew a lead off walk to start the game.

Saints’ starting pitcher Chapmen Dean got the next batter out on a foul tip and then struck out the next batter for the second out.

The Govs then broke through for their first run with a two-out single to center field.

Bryce Gandy drew a walk to start the bottom of the first inning, but was later thrown out attempting to steal second.

Chauncey Callier narrowly missed tying the game when he ripped pitch off the top of the right field fence.

Callier cruised in to second with a two-out double, but the Saints were unable to drive him in to score.

In the top of the second inning, the Govs got a single to start the frame, but then Dean retired the next three batters in order.

After the Saints went down in order in the bottom of the second, Dean sat down the Govs in order in the top of the third inning.

The Saints got a two-out single from Gandy in the bottom of the third inning, but were still unable to push across a run.

The Govs loaded the bases with a three-straight singles, and then Dean induced a ground ball for a double play.

The Govs got a run in on the play, but the Saints were able to limit the damage to just one run in the frame.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Callier started things off with a single and moved to second when Jesse Hall reached off of an error.

The next Saints batter grounded out and then the Govs got a double-play ball to end the Saints’ threat.

With two outs in the top of the fifth, the Govs put runners on second and third with a hit batter and double.

The next batter hit a line drive to left field, but Ko Powell barely had to move to make the play for the third out.

Matthew Christian got things started on a good note in the bottom of the fifth inning when he reached safely on a single to center field.

However, the Govs got another double-play ball to erase the Saints’ base runners.

The next batter grounded out to second base and the Saints trailed 2-0 heading into the sixth inning.

The Saints continued to play well on defense as they sat down the Govs in order in the top of the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Saints got some solid contact, but the Govs’ pitcher was able to retire the LBWCC batters in order.

In the top of the seventh inning, the first Govs batter grounded out to J Colley who fired to Trevor Shelton at first base for the first out of the inning.

The Govs next batter hit a scorcher and reached first base safely after the Saints committed an error.

Jackson Henderson then entered the game as a relief pitcher for the Saints.

Henderson got the first batter to ground the ball right back to him on the mound.

Instead of throwing to first, Henderson wheeled and threw out the lead runner heading for third base.

The Govs threatened to add to their lead after loading the bases with two outs, but Henderson got he next batter to fly out for the third out.

With their back against the wall, Hall got the bottom of the seventh started with a walk.

Shelton followed with a single and then a walk to Powell loaded the bases with no outs.

The Saints appeared to have a chance to break onto the scoreboard, but the next two batters were called out on strikes.

With one final chance, the Saints’ next batter made solid contact, but the ball flew straight to the Govs’ left fielder for the final out of the game.
