Outgoing Chamber of Commerce board member Heather Owen recognized teachers of the year during Thursday night’s banquet.

Jessica Tucker

Elementary teacher of the year

Jessica Tucker, 5th grade reading and U.S. history teacher at Andalusia Elementary was named elementary teacher of the year. She was one of 12 teachers chosen by the Alabama Department of Education to be a master teacher, and currently leads workshops throughout the state for educators preparing for the upcoming Alabama Bicentennial celebration.

Becky Garner

Middle school teacher of the year

Becky Garner, who teaches 7th grade English at Andalusia Junior High School, was named middle school teacher of the year. Her nominators recognized her for the use of music, technology and creative games in her curriculum, and said she also teaches students to become mentors.

Lisa Rolling

High school teacher of the year

Andalusia High School’s Lisa Rolling was named the high school teacher of the year. Rolling teaches geometry.

Her nominators said she constantly seeks new and innovative teaching strategies to engage her students, and invites professionals who use geometric concepts in their fields into the classroom to explain how geometry could be used in future career choices.

Other nominees for teacher of the year were Jeremy Silcox, Pleasant Home; Tamberli Dixon, Straughn High; Jenny Henderson, Red Level Elementary; Lynn Castleberry ,Andalusia Middle; Trinity Riley, Pleasant Home; and Abbie Lesa Caffy, W.S. Harlan.
