Southern Care Hospice hosted its annual Celebration of Life to remember with family members the patients lost within the past year.

There was a candle lighting ceremony as well as a cross ornament to take home.

Eloise Northy took care of her sister, Annie Jo Farmer, up until the last five days of her life, when she entered the care of Southern Care Hospice.

“When it was decided that my sister couldn’t stay home anymore, we knew we wanted to do hospice care,” Northy said, “But we had to wait for hospice because of other circumstances,” she said.

Farmer passed away June 4, 2017, at the age of 89.

“They couldn’t have been more supportive or there for us, and even when we didn’t have hospice, there were people from Southern Care driving out to check on my sister,” Northy said.

“The ceremony as wonderful, and I think it’s really good for those who lost a family member recently, and just before holiday times, when they really need someone,” Jodie Williams, the volunteer coordinator of Southern Care Hospice said.

The ceremony was from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with refreshments provided by St. Michael’s Anglican Church.
