A group of 12 Lurleen B. Wallace Community College honors students have formed partnerships with three local non-profits this semester to help further the non profits’ social media presence.

Shannon Levitizke, along with Heather Owen, who are heading up the Honors in Action project through Phi Theta Kappa, the international two-year college honor society, said that students chose to work with local non-profit organizations to help them build and enhance their social media presence. After researching several organizations in the area, students selected the Christian Service Center, Andalusia Animal Shelter and the Andalusia Lions Club.

The 12 students are divided into three groups with each group assigned to one of the organizations.

Levitizke said that the groups will spend the remainder of the semester working with the organizations to implement new social media plans.

“They just created Facebook and Instagram accounts for the Christian Service Center,” she said.

In the spring, Levitizke said they will write about their experiences and they compete against other schools involved in PTK.
