MONTGOMERY — Straughn scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning, and the Lady Tigers mounted a solid pitching game in the state tournament opening game to beat

Central-Florence 9-1.

Paige Caraway struck out seven and allowed one run on six hits in six innings to get the win for Straughn in the circle.

The Lady Tigers scored their five runs in the fourth on three hits, a stolen base and an error.

Straughn will play Dallas County at 3 p.m. in the winner’s bracket.
