Pleasant Home junior Sara Grace Martin recently bagged an antelope in the Physically Challenged Bow Hunters of American youth hunt in Wyoming.

Martin and her parents, Eric and Teresa Martin, traveled to Gillette, Wyo., the first week of September for the hunt.

“She loved it,” said Teresa Martin.

Sara Grace suffers from Spina bifida, which is a birth defect in which a baby’s spinal cord fails to develop properly.

Sara Grace uses a wheelchair.

Teresa said Sara Grace got involved with PCBA after local resident Dirk Price, who is a family friend, held a PCBA hunt here.

“She was approached by the president,” she said.

She was selected for the hunt, which provided meals, lodging, a personal hunting guide, and access to private hunting land through donations from donors and volunteers.

Sara Grace was one of five physically challenged youth to attend the hunt.

Three antelope were taken during the three-day hunt, and Sara Grace bagged one of those with a crossbow she was presented earlier this year by Big Heart Outdoors.

“I loved it,” Sara Grace said. “It was a really good experience. I would like to thank PCBA and Big Heart Outdoors for helping.”

The second annual PCBA Alabama Deer Hunt will be held from January 18 through 21, 2018, here in Covington County.

Participants must be members of the PCBA, and applicants for the hunt will be taken until the end of October.

Six members will be randomly drawn.
