OPP SURGES TO VICTORY: Lady Bobcats win Carroll Classic tourney title

The Opp Lady Bobcats’ volleyball team was on fire over the weekend as they won the championship at the 5th annual Carroll Classic volleyball tournament in Ozark on Saturday.
In the championship match, Opp took on Ariton who came into the tournament undefeated, but lost to the Lady Bobcats in pool play earlier in the day.
In game one, Opp took control from the opening serve scoring the first five points.
Opp pushed the lead up on Ariton with every rally, eventually leading by double digits.
The Lady Cats won the first game 25-11.
In game two, Opp struggled in the early stages, but battled back to tie the game at 19-19.
Ariton scored the next five points to take back the lead, and forced a third game after defeating Opp 25-20.
In game three, Opp found their rhythm again and broke a 3-3 tie with seven straight points for a 10-3 lead.
With the score 14-9, Ariton’s final serve of the game went into the net short giving Opp the win 15-9 and the tournament championship.
In the semi finals Opp defeated Charles Henderson 25-12 and 27-25 to advance to the finals.
The Lady Bobcats also went undefeated in pool play handing Ariton their first loss of the season in a three game match.
Opp also swept Goshen and New Brockton.
For the tournament, Maggie Short had 37 kills and 50 digs.
Haylee Brundidge had eight aces and Addie Jacobs seven blocks in the tournament.
Bailee Boyd led the team with 101 assists.
