The Straughn Lady Tigers picked up a big win on Monday night when they swept the Andalusia Lady Bulldog 3-0 in varsity volleyball action in Straughn.
“We played pretty well all day,” Straughn head coach Daniel Rodgers said. “The second set we played really well. We were hitting our serves and had girls moving around like they needed.”
Rodgers said that the win comes a great time for the Lady Tigers.
“I’m just really pleased to be able to get a good win like this with area games coming up this week,” Rodgers said. “We already played one area game against Straughn, but we will face off with Geneva and Slocomb this week.”
After a slow start to the season, Rodgers said that he was been pleased with the way the Lady Tigers have played over the past few matches.
“We have been showing a lot of improvement,” Rodgers said. “At the start of the year, we had different rotations and I think we have finally settled on one. The rotation we are using now, we have only been using it for about a week. Today in the third set, we were able to swap around a few girls. We had a girl that was out sick, so we got a chance to work on some things that we might have to do if something like that happens during area play.”
Rodgers said that he had several players come away with big nights in the match against Andalusia.
“Hannah Lawless pretty much led the way for us tonight,” Rodgers said. “She finished with 14 kills, nine aces and two blocks. She had a really big day for us.”
Along with Lawless, Rodgers said that Chelsea Brooks and Sydney Kinsaul also had strong games for the Lady Tigers.
Brooks had seven kills, five blocks and two aces.
Kinsaul finished the match with 24 assists and two aces.
“I’m just proud of them for getting the win today,” Rodgers said. “These girls are showing improvements with each game. We just need to keep on improving each game, and tonight was a step in that direction.”
The Lady Tigers will hit the road today to take on the Lady Panthers in Geneva.
Straughn will return home on Thurs., when they host Slocomb.
