BATTLE OF THE BULLDOGS: Andy to host UMS-Wright in top 5 showdown

There is a lot on the line for both Andalusia (No. 4) and UMS-Wright (No. 1) as they prepare to square off in a Class 4A Top 5 battle on Friday night in Andalusia.

“This is a typical UMS-Wright team,” Andalusia head coach Trent Taylor said. “They are so well coached and the kids play hard. It should be a fun game.”

Taylor said that the UMS-Wright offense is similar to what it has been in the past.

“They are very multiple,” Taylor said. “Make no mistake though, they want to run the football. They have two good backs that get it done. One is a big bruiser and the other is a little more of a speed back, but they still don’t have any tendencies there.”

As for Andalusia, Taylor said he has been pleased with practice this week.

“It was a good week of practice,” Taylor said. “With school being out on Monday, we weren’t able to practice, but the kids were up here Sunday to watch film so we were able to do a little walk through. At least we weren’t completely behind the eight ball, but it made Tuesday and Wednesday longer.”

Taylor said that there will be a few keys to success coming into the game.

“It’s going to come down to the team that makes the fewest mistakes,” Taylor said. “I’m not just talking about fumbles or interceptions, although they play a big part. As hard as these two teams play, I’m talking about making sure we don’t make mental mistakes. Stay where you are supposed to be and make the plays that come to you.”

The Class 4A, Region 1 contest between the Andalusia Bulldogs and the UMS-Wright Bulldogs will kickoff at 7 p.m., tonight in Andalusia.

Andalusia enters as the No. 4-ranked team and UMS-Wright is No. 1.

This is the second-straight year it has been a top-5 battle.
