In just a few weeks, the trails at Frank Jackson State Park in Opp will be lined with scarecrows of many varieties, and the Trailmasters want more participation than ever this year.

Charles Willis of the Frank Jackson State Park Trailmasters said the event is in its 10^th year and will run October and November.

The grand opening will be Sept. 29.

“We want to encourage as many to participate as possible,” he said. “We want churches, business, civic organizations, etc. It’s free to make a display and is free advertising.”

Willis said there will be a workshop on Sept. 14, at the Opp Adult Activity Center at 6 p.m.

Scarecrow supplies will be available that night for purchase.

Willis said the Trailmasters will give lessons in how to make scarecrows.

“It doesn’t have to be pretty,” he said. “We anticipate 600-plus scarecrows. More than 5,000 are expected to attend during those months.”

There is a fee to get into Frank Jackson State Park, which is $2 for ages 4-11 and over 62 and $4 for 12-61.

Willis said that the park will give a healthy discount to busloads of school children.

There are golf cart tours available to senior adults and other people who need assistance.
