The Opp Bobcats and Straughn Tigers each look for the first win of the young season as they prepare for a Class 3A, Region 2 battle in Straughn tonight.
“We expect our young men to behave better than we did last Friday night,” Straughn head coach John Higgins said. “That is not Straughn Tiger football and it never has been. We acted poorly and childish.”
Higgins said he doesn’t expect the same attitude this week.
“These really are very good kids,” Higgins said. “They are the best kids I’ve ever coached. Last week, we got hit in the mouth and didn’t respond the way we should have, but these kids no better and I don’t expect to see it again.”
As for Opp, Bobcat head coach Brent Hill says he wants to see his guys playing hard.
“This week, we haven’t really looked at Straughn,” Hill said. “My concern is own us. We have to have better effort and better execution. T.R. Miller is a great team, but we just caved in last week.”
Hill said that his players have gone through a tough week of practice.
“We were humbled on Friday night,” Hill said. “The effort wasn’t were we needed, but the kids have come in this week with a good attitude. It’s been a physical week, but the effort has been better. We don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves. We have a region opponent and rival on Friday night.”
Straughn and Opp kickoff at 7 p.m.
