Labor Day is a day to honor the social and economic achievements of American workers.
The first Labor Day was celebrated in 1882, in New York City, and there has been an increased emphasis on its importance since.
Today, many businesses close and give their employees a long weekend to celebrate the holiday and the hard work that the American people put in throughout the year.
Some businesses, on the other hand, stay open and continue to work through the holiday.
Among t hose working during the holiday were employees of the Andalusia Police Department, Andalusia Fire Department, Andalusia Distributing, Massey Automotive, Woodmore Assisted Living, E-911, Covington Country Sherriff’s Office and McDonald’s, as well as other fast food restaurants.
Andalusia Fire Department Lt. Timothy Stacks knew what he was getting into when he took the job.
“It really doesn’t bother me,” Stacks said. “We are used to working them, it has kind of become a routine.”
Lt. Stacks said that he enjoys the benefits of helping the community that come along with laboring on Labor Day.
“We are always glad to serve the public,” Stacks said.
This will be his eighth Labor Day spent at the Fire Department, working on Labor Day.
