Brunson Nichols Construction Co., was awarded a more than $459,000 bid for sewer replacement in Opp’s District 4.
The city council accepted the low bid at Monday night’s council meeting.
Also submitting bids were R&B Contracting for $514,966.47 and Nordan Contracting for $647,481.50.
The city was awarded a community development block grant in November 2016 when then-Gov. Robert Bentley presented the award in Red Level.
The CDBG grant was $444,793 for sewer rehab in the Barnes Street area.
The city had previously applied for the grant program three times.
Discussion of repaving of Barnes Street was a huge topic in the previous administration, the former administration agreed they didn’t want to repave Barnes Street before the sewer rehab was completed due having to tear up the street to make sewer repairs.
As part of the CDBG grant the city was required to contribute a $50,000 match.
“It is big for the residents that live in that area,” said Mayor Becky Bracke. “It’s been a problem area, and it’ll be a benefit to them which is great.”
