Very wet weather in June and into July have rainfall totals for the year trending much higher than the same people last year, according to data released this week by the Choctawhatchee, Pea and Yellow Rivers Watershed Management Authority.
In the first seven months of the year, the Choc-Pea Authority recorded 51.09 inches of rain at Yellow River on Hwy. 84 compared to 36.49 inches of rain in the same period last year.
In July, 7.19 inches of rain was recorded there, compared to 3.53 inches in July of 2016.
Choc-Pea also monitors rainfall at Yellow River on Hwy. 55, where the increase was not as drastic. Year to date, the agency has recorded 42.04 inches of rain on Hwy. 55, compared to 38.2 inches of rain in the same period of 2016.
In July, there were 4.28 inches of rain recorded, down from 5.60 inches in July of 2016.
The Authority also averages rainfall from the 21 gauges it monitors. Year to date, the average total has been 42.67 inches in 2017 compared to 33.24 inches in 2016.
