County 8U falls in World Series opener

The Covington County 8U All-Stars fought tooth-and-nail, but fell to the Prairie Village All-Stars 21-10 on Sunday afternoon in the opening round of the 2017 Babe Ruth Softball 8U World Series in Jensen Beach, Fla.

Alex Grimes had a big day at the plate for the Covington County All-Stars as she finished the day 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs.

Coco Stamps picked up a two hits in the three trips to the plate and reached once off an error.

Stamps scored three runs in the game and also had a triple.

Allyx Williamson drove in three runs fort he Covington County All-Stars as she finished the day with two hits, including a double, and scored one run.

Marley Kilcrease has solid day at the plate as she finished with two doubles and drove in a pair of runs for the Covington County All-Stars.

McKenzie Barrow finished the game with one hit and one RBI.

Kinsley Short came in a as pinch hitter and drove in a run with a single in her only trip to the plate for the Covington County All-Stars.

Addyson Byrd, Annlee Dunn, Adelaide Dunn and Kayden Patterson had one hit each for the Covington County All-Stars.

Prairie Village’s top players were Addison Johnson and Allie Streble. Johnson finished the game 3-for-3 with four RBIs, and Streble went 4-for-4 with three RBIs.

The Covington County 8U All-Stars were supposed to be back in action on Monday against Mars Landing, but Tropical Storm Emily forced the games to be postponed until today.
