CHASING DOWN THE TITLE: County 8U All-Stars start strong in regionals

The Covington County 8U  softball All-Stars have started off strong in the 2017 Regional Tournament in Houma, La.

Before the actual start of the tournament, the teams played a pair of practice games and the County All-Stars came out of that with a pair of wins.

They one the first game via mercy rule and then defeated the current Louisiana state champions 8-5 in the final practice game.

COVINGTON 11,

TERREBONNE 1

In the first actual game of the regional tournament, the Covington County All-Stars used strong hitting, smart base running and solid defense to come away with an 11-1 victory over the host team Terrebonne Parish.

McKenzie Barrow, AnnLee Wise, Adelaide Dunn and Kayden Patterson led the way with two hits and two runs each in the opening game win.

COVINGTON 12,

ST. CHARLES 8

The County 8U girls continued their strong start to the regional tournament as they came away with 12-8 victory over St. Charles to end the first day of the tourney with a 2-0 record.

In the second game, CoCo Stamps, Alex Grimes and McKenzie each scored two runs in the win.

With the win, the Covington County 8U All-Stars will play today at 1:30 p.m., against Pierre Part in the regional quarterfinals.
