FOOTBALL AROUND THE CORNER: Bulldogs release 2017 varsity schedule

Andalusia High School recently released the Bulldogs’ 2017 football schedule.
The Bulldogs will open up the season at home on August 25 against the Shades Valley Mounties.
Shades Valley is a Class 6A school that went 5-5 in 2016. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.
The Bulldogs will hit the road in week two as they travel to Montgomery to take on Trinity on Sept. 1.
This is the sixth meeting between Trinity and Andalusia, with the Bulldogs holding a 4-1 record in previous games.
Andalusia returns home on Sept. 8 when they match up with Monroe County for the first Class 4A, Region 1 game of the season.
Monroe County and Andalusia have faced each other 21 times with both teams winning 10 games and one tie. Last season, the Bulldogs knocked off Monroe County 50-6.
The Bulldogs will look to avenge their only regular-season loss of 2016 as they host UMS-Wright on Sept. 15 for a region game.
Andalusia has yet to defeat UMS-Wright on the gridiron in 13 games, but last year’s 14-7 loss was the closest Andalusia has come to beating the private school giants.
The Bulldogs stay in region action, but will travel to Atmore to take on Escambia County on Sept. 22.
Andalusia currently holds a 21-15 record over Escambia County, including winning the past three contests between the two schools.
Closing out the first full month of the season, the Bulldogs will take a break from region play to take on cross-county rival Opp at home.
Andalusia currently holds a 48-36-4 record against the Bobcats and has won the past eight games.
Andalusia returns to region action on Oct. 6 when they take on Thomasville in Thomasville.
Thomasville holds a 7-5 record over the Bulldogs, but Andalusia has one the past two meetings including a 37-0 victory last season.
Andalusia remains on the road on Oct. 13 when the take on Satsuma in area action.
Last season was the first time the two teams met on the gridiron, with the Bulldogs coming away with a 40-20 win.
The Bulldogs will wrap up region play on Oct. 20 when they host W.S. Neal for homecoming.
Andalusia holds a 10-6 record over W.S. Neal, including winning the last three match ups.
The Bulldogs close out the regular season on Nov. 3 when they take the short trip to Straughn to take on the Tigers.
Andalusia currently holds a 14-4 record over the Tigers.
