James Winston (Jim) Beasley Sr.
James Winston (Jim) Beasley Sr. died on May 29, 2017, at his assisted living home. Graveside services will be held Sat., June 3, at 10 a.m. in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Trent officiating. Visitation will be at the Foreman Funeral Home the evening of Fri.,, June 2, from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m..
He was born in Mitchell County Georgia in 1928 and graduated from Moultrie, Ga., High School in 1945. He moved to Albany, Ga., in 1947 and was employed by an Ice Cream Manufacturing Company. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for seven years, some of which was during the Korean War. During this time, he attended stenographic school in Cheyenne, Wy., and graduated as a stenographic technician. His first assignment was Headquarters 14th Air Force at Robins AFB in Warner Robins, Ga. It was there that he met and married Mary Joyce Taylor who had just completed Registered Nurse training. The next assignment was with Headquarters Allied Air Forces Southern Europe, a NATO organization established in Florence, Italy. It was later moved to Naples, Italy, where it joined the Army, Navy and Marine headquarters complex. His last assignment was Headquarters Central Air Defense Force in Grandview, Mo., After he was honorably discharged in October, 1955, the family moved to Andalusia where he managed the Western Auto Store until he joined Taylor Parts and Supply Company as a salesman. He remained in automotive parts sales and management on a national level until 1983 when he joined the sales team at TPS Inc. in Andalusia. He later transferred inside and did purchasing until retiring in 1993.
He loved his family and though his work required extensive travel, he spent as much time as possible doing things together. He always regretted not being able to participate in all of their activities. He was a firm believer that a good education built a solid foundation. That combined with hard work and determination, insured a more prosperous and happier life. He was always very proud of the achievements of his children in their chosen career fields.
During his earlier years he served as president of the Andalusia Junior Chamber of Commerce as well as the Alabama JAYCEE State Vice President and International Director. He was also elected and served on the Board of Directors of the Andalusia Chamber of Commerce and the Andalusia Country Club. He was elected as the Governor of the Andalusia Chapter of the Moose Lodge. He was a member of the Andalusia Congregational Church and in the past was very active in all of their programs and projects. He was always available to assist in any way in all charitable community activities.
In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, all types of hunting, and was an avid golfer. He loved growing and caring for all types of flowers and his home was a showplace year round. He always maintained a beautiful and well-manicured yard.
He is survived by two daughters Karen J. (Tom) Sellers of Montgomery, and Wanda D. (Peter) Katinszky of Bloomington, Ind.; two sons, James Winston (Laura) Beasley Jr., and Jeffrey L. (Nancy) Beasley of Tulsa, Okla.; his companion and caregiver Elizabeth Hood of Mount Holley, N.C., three granddaughters, Laurie (Eric) Prescott, Jennifer Sellers, Sariah Beasley, and a step-granddaughter Emily (Mike) Frammartino; four grandsons, Daniel (Leslie) Sellers, Winston (Rachel) Beasley III, Jamie Sellers and Caleb Beasley; two great-grandsons, Luke Prescott and Eli Prescott; and a step great-granddaughter, Alora Austin. He is also survived by a sister, Deloris MacDonald; and two brothers, Al (Terri) Beasley, and Jerry (Dianna) Beasley; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur L. Beasley; sister, Madeline S. Duren; and Joyce, his beloved wife of 57 years.
In lieu of flowers, tax deductible contributions can be designated for the Mary Joyce (Taylor) Beasley Nursing Scholarship Fund at the Douglas MacArthur State Technical College (DMSTC) Foundation, P.O. Drawer 1418, Andalusia, AL 36420.
Pauline Cornelson
Mrs. Pauline Cornelson, age 70, of Andalusia, passed away on Tues., May 30, 2017.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sat., June 3, 2017, at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs. Cornelson is survived by her son, Jason Cornelson of Dozier; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Homer Brooks of Seminary, Miss; grandchild, Nicole Cornelson of Dozier; and sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Mason, Ann Ellis, and Mattie and Ed Overton all of Monroeville.

Gary Dean Corbitt
Gary Dean Corbitt, 59, of Davie, Fla., passed away Sat., May 27, 2017, peacefully at his home. Gary was born Oct. 18, 1957, the son of James Emmett Corbitt and Kathryn Dobbins Corbitt.
Gary graduated from Florala High School in 1975 and furthered his education at the University of Alabama where he received his master’s degree in education in 1981. While attending college, he also played the saxophone in the University’s Million Dollar Band. One he completed his education he went on to teach elementary classes in the Florida State School system.
Gary was a member of North Creek Lodge #746 and very active in his church and sang with the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida. He loved to travel and lived his life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Emmett Corbitt.
Survivors include his husband, Jonathan Nickens of Davie, Fla.; mother, Kathryn Dobbins Corbitt; and brother, David Corbitt (Charlotte) of Red Oak, Ala.
A memorial service will be hld at Red Oak Baptist Church on Sat., June 3, at 1:30 p.m. Gary’s wishes were for his remains to be placed in a memorial wall in the church he attended. Although Gary no longer lived in the state of Alabama, he remained an avid fan of the Crimson Tide of Alabama.
Robert Boyd
Robert Boyd, 76, for Henagan Road in Libertyville, passed away on Thurs., June 1, 2017, at his residence.
Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced later by Keahey Funeral Home.
