Straughn reunion is May 20

All alumni and former Straughn School students are invited to attend a school-wide reunion to celebrate the school’s 130th anniversary.

Organizer Kelley Carter said a similar event held in the fall of 2012 drew 267 people. A similar event marked the school’s centennial.

“We learned pretty quickly not to do this in the fall when football is going on,” he said.

The event is set for 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sat., May 20, in the elementary school. No formal program is planned, but there will be time for fellowship and visiting. The FFA String Band and FFA quartet will perform.

Carter said the message is being spread with fliers, local media and through social media, and asked that former Straughn students share the announcement with friends and family members.

Refreshments will be available from vendors.
