Saints split in regular-season finale

The LBW Saints’ baseball team wrapped up the regular season on Monday with a split against the Coastal Alabama-Brewton Warhawks in Brewton.
COASTAL 7,
LBWCC 1
In the first game of the series, the Warhawks jumped out front early and held on for a 7-1 win.
The Warhawks picked up a walk and single to start the bottom of the first inning and then plated the first run of the game off an error.
Another base hit then gave the Warhawks a 2-0 lead in the opening frame.
In the bottom of the second inning, two walks and a single ended up loading the bases for the Warhawks.
A bases-loaded walk then put the Warhawks on top, 3-0.
The Warhawks extended their lead to 4-0 with a single, but the Saints cut the down the next runner at the plate for the final out of the inning.
The Saints got one-out walks from Ko Powell and Trey McMillian in the top of the sixth inning to give LBWCC a little life.
Matt Christian followed with a single to center on a line drive to score Powell from third.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, a two-run double from the Warhawks helped push them to a 7-1 victory.
LBWCC 8,
COASTAL 1
The Saints closed out the final regular season game with a 8-1 victory over the Warhawks.
Casey Henderson got a leadoff walk to start the top of the second inning and moved up to second on a two-out passed ball.
The next Saints’ batter then struck out, but the ball squirted by the Warhawk catcher and allowed the batter to reach first safely.
The wild pitch also allowed Henderson to advance to third base with two outs.
Harrison Jacobs followed with a single through the right side to score Henderson from third with ease.
Chauncey Callier was hit by a pitch to start the top of third inning and then moved to second on a single from Christian.
Both runners then advanced 90 feet when Henderson dropped down a sacrifice bunt.
Harrison Morris followed up with a hard ground ball to left field that scored Callier from third base.
Jack Stamps kept things rolling for the Saints with a single to center that scored Christian for a 3-0 LBWCC lead.
The Saints added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning when Henderson ripped a single to right field that brought Powell around to score.
Christian led off the top of the sixth inning with a single and then came around to score on a double from Stamps.
The Saints then scored a pair of runs off an error to give them a 7-0 advantage.
In the top of the seventh inning, Gunner Hendrix scored on an error for the final Saints’ run of the game.
A two-out single in the bottom of the seventh gave the Warhawks their lone score of the game.
The Saints will be back in action on Friday when they take on Snead State at 9 a.m., in the opening round of the 2017 Alabama Community College Conference/ Region 22 baseball tournament at Historic Eagle Stadium in Ozark.
