PLEASANT HOME STAYS ALIVE: Eagles pick up big win to force decisive game 3

The Pleasant Home Eagles fell in the first game in round two of the Class 1A state playoffs on Friday in Millry, but pulled out at win in game two to force a decisive game three

In the opening game of the best-of-three series, the Eagles went on top early, but couldn’t hold off Millry in a 5-2 defeat.

Walt Weaver drew a walk to start the contest after working his way to full count.

The Eagles used a little small-ball action when Josh Ruth dropped down a sacrifice bunt that moved Weaver into scoring position.

Weaver then used his speed to swipe third.

Pleasant Home put runners on the corners when Garrett Barton drew a five-pitch walk.

Aaron Warthen put the Eagles on the board with a hard-hit ball to center that caused a miscue from the Millry fielder.

Weaver scored easily on the error to put Pleasant Home out front 1-0.

Eagles’ starting pitcher Joe Gibbs helped out his own cause when he sent double into the gap to give Pleasant Home a 2-0 lead.

Joe Gibbs worked around an error in the bottom of the first inning to keep the Eagles on top 2-0.

Parker Lloyd got a one-out single in the top of the second inning, but back-to-back strikeouts left him stranded on first.

In the bottom of the second, Millry got a leadoff single and then a two-out single to cut the Pleasant Home lead down to 2-1.

Millry tied the contest in the bottom of the third inning. A hit batter to start the inning came around to score the tying run.

A leadoff double for Millry in the bottom of the fourth inning ended leading to the go-ahead run.

Millry scored one run in each the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to go on to a 5-2 victory.

PLEASANT HOME 3, MILLRY 1

The Eagles picked up the lead early and held on for a 3-1 victory over Millry.

Weaver kicked off the contest with a double and then came around to score on a single from Ruth to put the Eagles on top 1-0.

Ruth scored later in the inning to put Pleasant Home up 2-0.

In the top of the second inning, Taylor got the Eagles started with a double.

Weaver followed with a one-out single to drive in Taylor from second to give the Eagles a 3-0 advantage.

The Eagles held Millry off the scoreboard for six innings, and limited them to just one run in the top of the seventh inning to earn the victory.

With the win, the Eagles tie the series at 1-1 and force a winner-take-all game three today at 1 p.m.
