OPENING WITH AUTHORITY: Lady Bulldogs breathe life into new facility

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs swept Kinston and Escambia County on the opening night of the Lady Bulldogs’ new softball facility on Thursday.

In the opening game at the new Lady Bulldog softball field, Andalusia scored early and often on their way to a 15-0 win over Escambia County.
Mary Katherine Salter got the start in the pitcher’s circle and picked up a strikeout for the very first out on the new field.
Olivia Amerson became the first Lady Bulldog to record a hit on the new field when she reached on a one-out single to right.
The Lady Bulldogs came out swinging hot bats in the bottom of the second inning and put up a 10-spot on Escambia County.
Senior Aaliyah Lawrence drove in the first run on the new field when she plated Zaria Jones with a double to center.

The Lady Bulldogs capped off the magical night at the park with a 7-6 walk-off victory over the Kinston Lady Bulldogs.
Andalusia jumped out front 4-0 in the bottom of the second inning, but Kinston rallied to take a 6-4 lead a few innings later.
Haley Harper tied the game up with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Jones drove in Haley Day with single to right to give the Lady Bulldogs a 7-6 victory.
“We came out a little flat today, but we adjusted and really cranked it up,” Andalusia head coach Anthony Mikel said. “We hit the ball really well, and I’m just proud of these girls. This was a great way to break in the new field.”
