An Opp woman is behind bars after she allegedly set fire to a trailer early Monday morning.
Steve Holmes, spokesperson, for the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office said that around 4:34 a.m. on Monday, the Opp Fire Department and Opp Police Departments responded to a reported structure fire at 1015 Rhea Drive, Lot 43 in the Lunsford Trailer Court.
OFD Chief Cory Spurlin said that when they arrived on scene the fire was out and no one was home.
“Someone had saw it and extinguished it,” he said.
Spurlin said as firefighters were examining the scene, they found that there were two different spots that looked like someone had tried to set fire to the home.
He said the damage was to the exterior of the home.
“We then contacted the fire marshal’s office,” Spurlin said.
Holmes said that fire marshals arrested Cori Noelle Lawrence, 22, for second-degree arson and she was taken to the Covington County Jail.
Jail records show that she was booked in with a $20,000 bond.
“Arson second is a class D felony and is punishable by up to five years in prison and or up to $7,500 in fines.”
