Saints split with Chatt Valley

The LBWCC Saints split games with the Chattahoochee Valley CC Pirates on Friday afternoon in conference play at LBW.

In the opening game of the day, the Saints rallied from an early hole to top the Pirates 10-2.

The Pirates got on the board first in the top of the second when a trio of singles pushed across the first run of the game.

A sacrifice fly to center then had the Pirates out front 2-0.

The game remained 2-0 for the next couple of innings before the Saints broke through in the bottom of the fourth.

Harrison Morris led off the Saints’ half of the fourth with a line drive single to left field.

Gunner Hendrix followed with a scorching line drive to right to move Morris into scoring position.

Matt Christian put the Saints on the board with a hard ground ball single up the middle of the diamond that brought Morris in to score and move Hendrix to third.

The Saints knotted the game at 2-2 when Chauncey Callier dropped down a sacrifice bunt.

Tyler Sharp gave the Saints a lead that they wouldn’t relinquish when he drove a single into left to score Christian.

LBWCC continued to pour on the hits as Micah McCaskill punched a single into right field that scored Sharp for a 4-2 Saints’ advantage.

Jackson Henderson then gave the Saints a 5-2 lead with a RBI single to center field.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Hendrix reached on a one-out walk and then advanced to second on single from Callier.

Sharp followed with an RBI single to left to put the Saints up 6-2.

Trey McMillian then drive in Callier with a single to right field.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Matt Jones got the Saints going with a one-out double to the gap in right center.

Hendrix gave the Saints runners at first and second when he drew his second walk of the contest.

Christian then delivered the with a massive blast over the fence in right for a three-run home run.

The Saints retired the Pirates in order in the top of the seventh inning to secure the 10-2 victory.

Christian led the way at the plate for the Saints going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs scored and one walk.

Sharp finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBI.

McMillian, McCaskill and Henderson drove in one run each in the Saints’ victory.

In the final game of the series, the Pirates went up early and held off the Saints for a 5-0 victory.

The Pirates got things started with a double in the top of the first inning and scored the first run of the game on a fielder’s choice.

Following a walk that put runners at first and second, the Pirates a got a big three-run home run to take an early 4-0 lead.

The Pirates added their final run off of a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning.
