Lady Saints’ comeback falls short

The LBWCC Lady Saints made a strong comeback attempt, but fell short in a 9-8 loss to Alabama Southern on Thursday in Andalusia.
In the top of the first inning Alabama Southern took advantage of a couple of errors and a walk to take an early 2-0 lead.
Alabama Southern tacked on four runs in the top of the fourth inning to go up 6-0.
Jessica Dickson reached off an error in the bottom of the fourth and came around to score on sacrifice from Taylor Bethea.
Tori Morgan then drove in Paige Taylor with a double.
Jessica Callaway cut the lead in half with a single to short.
After Alabama Souther added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, the Lady Saints came back in the bottom half of the inning with a run off a single from Ashley Elmore.
Merikal McCaskill led off the bottom of the seventh with single to center and then scored on single from Bethea.
Morgan then drew a bases-loaded walk to trim the Lady Saints’ deficit to two runs.
Bethea scored on a steal of home to cut it to 9-8, but the a strikeout ended the Lady Saints’ comeback attempt one-run short.
