Comedian Leanne Morgan will entertain at the 2017 Little Black Dress Event, set for Sat., April 29, at the Andalusia Country Club.

A native of Eastern Tennessee, Morgan is described as “Scarlet O’Hara turned soccer mom.”

The dinner, fashion show and silent auction that’s just for women will benefit the Covington County Imagination Library, a literacy program that provides free books to children residing in Covington County from birth to age 5 years, building each a library of 60 books by the time he or she enters kindergarten.

The program is affiliated with Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which helps provide the books at reduced costs. Organizer Curtis Simpson said every child’s first book is “The Little Engine That Could,” and the last one is, “Look Out, Kindergarten, Here I Come.”

“This is our only fundraiser for this organization,” Simpson said. “We believe this program is well worth the effort.”

Currently, the program is mailing hard cover books to 861 youngsters in Opp, Andalusia, and Florala each month, at an annual coast of approximately $21,600.

Tickets for the Little Black Dress Event may be purchased at Harold’s Furniture, 526 E. Three Notch Court, Andalusia.

Individual tickets are $100; a table for six is $500. Corporate sponsorships are $1,000.
