Saints sweep Wallace-Dothan

The LBWCC Saints improved to 21-5 on the year as they swept Wallace-Dothan on Monday in Andalusia.

The Saints fought back in the opening game of the doubleheader for a 6-5 walk-off win.

In the top of the first inning, the Governors took advantage of a leadoff walk and a two-out double to jump out front 1-0.

Trey McMillian led off the bottom of the first inning with a single and then moved around to third on single from Gunner Hendrix.

Matt Christian followed with a fly ball to center for the first out and McMillian was thrown out at the plate.

Chauncey Callier got things started with a single in the bottom of the second inning and the moved around to third when Jake Stamps reached on an error.

Jackson Henderson followed with a line-drive single to center that scored Callier with ease and tie the game 1-1.

Harrison Morris then put the Saints on top with single to right field that scored Stamps.

The Saints took advantage of a two-out error off the bat of Christian that allowed Casey Henderson to score and give LBWCC a 3-1 lead.

Wallace-Dothan responded in the top of the third inning with four runs to put them on top 4-3.

Like the Saints, the Governors took advantage of costly walks and errors that lead to the big inning.

In the bottom of the third inning, Callier reached with line drive double to center and Stamps drew a walk to put the Saints in business.

J. Henderson dropped down timely sacrifice bunt down the third base line to move the Saints’ runners to second and third with just one out.

C. Henderson followed with a seeing-eye single through the left side of the infield that allowed Callier to score and tie game at 4-4.

The Saints then grabbed the lead when Morris drove fly deep enough to center for Stamps to tag up and score from third.

The lead didn’t last long as the Governors got a leadoff home run to start the top of the fourth inning and tie the game 5-5.

Both teams got a boost from their pitching and defense as the game remained 5-5 going into the bottom of the seventh inning.

J. Henderson drove a single to center to start the bottom of the seventh inning and then moved up to third on sacrifice bunt from C. Henderson.

Morris then stepped in with winning run on second and one out in the inning.

Morris fouled off the first pitch and watched the second pitch go by for a ball before sending the third pitch back up the middle of the diamond for a single.

The Governors’ center fielder fielded the ball and made a hurried throw to the plate but it wasn’t nearly in time to keep Henderson from scoring the winning run.

The Saints finished off the home sweep of the Wallace-Dothan Governors with a 2-0 victory behind a shutout performance on the mound by Tony Kucera.

In the top of the first inning, Kucera worked around a lead off double before retiring the next three batters.

Callier singled to start the bottom of the second inning and then came around to score on a single from C Henderson.

Callier continued to help guide the Saints as he lead off the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run to center to put LBWCC on top 2-0.

Kucera was dominant on the mound and held the Governors to just three hits scattered over seven innings.
