The LBWCC Saints put up a strong fight, but a late score by Wallace-Dothan gave the Governors a 1-0 victory on Thursday afternoon in Dothan.
Trey McMillian was hit by a pitch to start the top of the first inning, but was promptly picked off first by Govs’ pitcher Phillip Sieli.
Sieli then got a ground out and strike out to end the Saints’ half of the first inning.
Chapman Dean got the start on the mound for the Saints and struck out the first batter that he faced.
Dean proceeded to get the next two batters to ground out to end the opening frame.
In the bottom of the second inning, after Dean got two quick outs, the Govs got a pair of runners on base off of a single and an error.
Dean got the next batter to fly out to McMillian in center to end the Wallace threat in the bottom of the second inning.
Ko Powell got the Saints started off with a bunt single in the top of the third inning, but Sieli struck out the next two batters and got McMillian to pop out for the final out of the frame.
The Saints got started on the right note in the top of the fourth inning with a single from Gunner Hendrix, but the Govs were once again able to thwart any scoring chances the Saints might have had.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Saints got another leadoff man to reach safely when Jake Stamps drew a walk.
Stamps moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Walker Messer, but was thrown out at the plate when Harrison Morrison singled to right field.
The Govs got a pair of one-out walks to start the bottom of the fifth inning and then a two-out error lead to Wallace bringing around the game’s lone run around to the plate.
The Saints continued to battle, but Sieli remained in command of the game as he struck out four the games final six batters to hand the Saints a 1-0 defeat.
Powell, Hendrix and Morris were the only three Saints to record a hit.
