The Pleasant Home Eagles fell behind in the first inning, but battled back to knock off Monroe County 14-4 on Tuesday night in Pleasant Home.

In the top of the first inning, Pleasant Home starting pitcher Walt Weaver got two quick outs before a walk and a single led to a Monroe County run.

Weaver struck out the final batter of the inning, but Monroe County was on top 1-0.

The Eagles got two quick outs to start the bottom of the first inning before Joe Gibbs got things going with a double to left field.

Garrett Barton followed with an infield single, and then Aaron Warthen put the Eagles up 2-1 with a two-run double to right.

Mason Kelley replaced Weaver on the mound in the top of the second inning and after giving up a leadoff single, Kelley struck out the next three batters.

However before the third strikeout, an error on a third on a steal attempt allowed Monroe County to tie the game 2-2.

Justin Gibbs singled in the bottom of the second inning and later came around to score on a double steal to put the Eagles up 3-2.

In the bottom of the third inning, Joe Gibbs reached first with his second hit and his courtesy runner J Hawkins moved up to third when Barton reached on an error by the Monroe County second baseman.

Warthen then came through with a single to right field that scored Hawkins and Barton to give the Eagles a 5-2 advantage.

Two batters later, Parker Lloyd mashed a triple in the right that allowed Warthen to score with ease from second.

Joe Gibbs continued to thrive at the plate as he delivered a single to drove in Lloyd for a 7-2 Eagle lead.

After a walk and a hit batter, the Eagles had the bases loaded up for Justin Gibbs who was then hit by a pitch.

Barton followed with an infield single that scored a run and then Warthen drove in a pair to put the Eagles on top 12-2.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Eagles added a run to give them 14-4 mercy-rule win.

“I thought we hit the ball well,” Pleasant Home head coach Chris Mason said. “Mason Kelley was very efficient on the mound for us. We have one more game now with Florala on Thursday before area play begins.”

Pleasant Home and Florala will begin play with a junior varsity game at 4 p.m., in Florala.
