Covington County Sheriff Dennis Meeks confirmed late Monday night that his department was investigating the death of a local man from from an apparent gunshot wound.

Meeks said the Covington County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the Gantt/Red Level Road, County Road 82, at approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found a white male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity was not released, pending notification of all of his relatives.

The man’s body was found inside the home, and officers were awaiting a search warrant to continue their investigation, Meeks said.

Meeks said no arrests had been made.

Deputy Kevin Wise is leading the investigation for the Covington County Sheriff’s Department, which was assisted by the Gantt Police Department and the District Attorney’s office.
