The second annual Chili Cook-Off fundraiser at Mizell Memorial Hospital was a big hit on Thursday afternoon in the hospital dining room.
“We have had a lot of people from the community and our hospital employees come by and try out the chili,” MMH marketing coordinator Kristen Averitt said. “This community is always so good about helping out with fundraisers. They have all said how special it us for us to do this.”
The competition had 11 participants, with Veronica Fields taking home the first place ribbon. Sonny Jones and Kim Shaffer tied for second place, and Heather Hinson came in third place.
Members of the community and hospital employees paid $2 per bowl to sample the chili, and all of the proceeds went to the hospital’s Patient Benevolence Fund.
“For just our second year doing this, it went very well,” Averitt said. “In total, we raised $284 for the Patient Benevolence Fund.”
