A local man was arrested after state troopers detected the smell of burned marijuana during a traffic stop Monday morning.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Spokesperson Kevin Cook said that Michael Christian White, 29, was stopped for speeding around 7:04 a.m., on Hwy. 55.

“When Trooper (Matt) Kennedy go to the vehicle, he detected the odor of burnt marijuana,” Cook said.

White was then arrested.

“While frisking Mr. White for contraband, a small amount of marijuana was found in White’s possession,” Cook said.

He was charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cook said that White also had an active warrant out of Covington County for failure to appear.

White was booked into the Covington County Jail on an $18,000 bond. He was later released.
