The LBWCC Saints improved to 5-0 on the young season after sweeping Enterprise State CC on Saturday at LBWCC.

LBWCC 4, ESCC 3

In the opening game, the Saints fell behind early but rallied late to knock off ESCC 4-3.

ESCC got three singles in the opening frame to drive in a run and take an early 1-0 advantage.

Ko Powell led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single to get things started for the Saints, but was later erased on a fielder’s choice.

The Saints loaded the bases up after Matthew Jones was hit by a pitch and Chauncey Callier reached on hard-hit ball that popped off the glove of the ESCC third baseman.

Tyler Sharp tied the game by drawing a walk that scored Gunner Hendrix.

Walker Messer followed by also drawing a walk that allowed Jones to score and give the Saints a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the fifth, Garrett Hollinghead remained sharp on the mound and retired the ESCC batters in order.

Powell drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the fifth inning and moved to second on a single from Matthew Christian.

Hendrix then moved both runners up one base with a fielder’s choice back to the pitcher.

The Saints then extended their lead when Jones mashed a two-out single to center that allowed Powell and Christian to score to give LBWCC a 4-1 advantage.

ESCC got a little life in the top of the seventh inning, but Tony Kucera struck out the final batter to give the Saints a 4-3 win.

Jones finished the game with two RBIs and one run scored to help guide the Saints to victory.

Sharp and Messer each added one RBI.

LBWCC 11, ESCC 1

The Saints needed only five innings to top ESCC 11-1 in Saturday’s series finale.

In the bottom of the second inning after reaching on a walk, Jones moved up to second on a wild pitch and then scored on a single from Callier to put LBWCC up 1-0.

Micah McCaskill then drove in Callier with a sacrifice fly to give the Saints a 2-0 advantage heading into the third inning.

Jones scored his second run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning a single from Casey Henderson.

McCaskill then blasted a two-run bomb to put the Saints up 5-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Saints took advantage of timely hits and a couple of errors by ESCC to pick up an 11-1 victory.

McCaskill led the way for the Saints going 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Hunter Jacobs and Henderson added two RBIs each.

“We are 5-0 so far, but we still have to keep getting better,” Helms said. “I really didn’t feel like we played well on Saturday, but the guys found a way to win. We are dealing with a lot of injuries right now, but we have a pretty nice ball club. I thought the last game on Saturday that we woke up and played to our ability. This team works hard and the will continue to improve.”
