Pleasant Home sweeps for area titles

The Pleasant Home Eagles picked up two big wins on Thursday night to win the Class 1A, Area 2 championships in Pleasant Home.
GIRLS
PLEASANT HOME 71, KINSTON 29
In the opening championship game, the Lady Eagles surged in the second period to help lift them to a 71-29 victory.
Both teams came out strong in the opening period, and it was the Lady Eagles who were up 18-12 heading into the second.
The Lady Eagles continued to surge in the second half of the contest and put the Lady Bulldogs in a 56-24 hole going into the final frame.
River Baldwin led the way for the Lady Eagles with 40 points.
“Any time you can win the area it’s a good thing,” ady Eagles’ head coach Jerry Davis said. “Kinston played us tough, but we got things going a little bit there in the second.”
With the win the Lady Eagles will host next Friday’s sub-regional game against the loser between Georgiana and Brantley.
BOYS
PLEASANT HOME 49, HOUSTON COUNTY 48
The Eagles fought back in the final match of the evening to knock of Houston County 49-48.
Trailing 25-22 at halftime, the Eagles got a big night from senior Walt Weaver to help lift the Eagles to the win.
Robert Scott gave the Eagles a lead after hitting two free throws with four minutes left in the game.
Houston County tied the game 48-48 with 1:35 remaining.
Aaron Warthen knocked down a free throw with 11.5 seconds left and then grabbed a rebound after missing the second shot to help secure the win.
Weaver led the Eagles with 21 points.
“We knew it was going to be a battle,” Eagles’ head coach Troy Turman said. “I’m so proud of everyone of the kids on this team. I’m just so proud of the way that we kept on battling.”
With the win the Eagles will host next Friday’s sub-regional game.
