LBW Community College’s Career Pathways and Adult Education is offering a free welding class for qualified students.

“We are proud to offer this extraordinary opportunity to our surrounding communities,” said Robyn Reisnour.

The free evening class is offered to those who qualify for adult education and could lead to learning basic welding and academic skills necessary for an entry level welding position, she said.

“We will take six students at the time on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Jan. 31. Those interested must call ahead to prescreen and take the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) to determine academic needs.”

Participants are required to complete 45 hours of adult education while enrolled in the welding class.

“We start the first class on Feb. 20, 2017, 5:30-8:30 p.m., with Mondays and Wednesdays in the welding portion and Tuesdays the academic portion of the program.”

After completing the requirements for the Career Pathways and Adult Education portions of the class, Reisnour expects students to be motivated to continue their education by earning a GED or enrolling in post-secondary education.

“Upon completion of the welding requirements of the class and earning the basic MIG welding certificate, we hope students find interest in obtaining additional certificates needed for more advanced welding positions and are able to find immediate job placement in the workforce.”

When all requirements are met, students have the potential to earn a National Career Readiness Certificate which is evidence to employers the individual is ready for the workforce, she said.
