A multi-jurisdictional law enforcement effort landed a local man behind bars for violating his probation and failing to register as a sex offender.
The 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force, Andalusia Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Task Force, working off a lead developed by Andalusia Police Department’s Mike Abraham and Tyler Patterson, arrested Samuel Dean Pendergrass on a federal warrant for violation of probation and for a warrant for failing to register as a sex offender.
DTF Agent Greg Jackson said that agents located Pendergrass in a local apartment complex and were able to arrest him on the outstanding warrants.
He was taken into custody and placed in the Covington County Jail, and has since been turned over to the US Marshals.
Pendergrass’s original charge is from Oklahoma, where he was convicted of rape second. Charges were filed in July 1998.
Anyone with information on sex offenders who are not in compliance with the sex offender registration and notification act is asked to contact the closest law enforcement agency.
